CIDA’s official site has online publications, research papers and strategic action plans on development topics including HIV/AIDS and youth participation.

DFID’s official site contains policies, projects, strategy papers and publications searchable by region and topics, including “Education and Training” and “Employment.”

The EU in the World

This site contains data on the EU’s foreign and development policies. Click on the “External Trade” and “Development Policy” tabs to view current articles, country and regional strategy papers, statistics and links related to world trade and poverty reduction.

Competency-based Economies through Formation for Enterprise (CEFE)

The German Agency for Technical Cooperation’s (GTZ) knowledge management site CEFE contains information related to training and business development. Go to the “Virtual Library” tab for papers and reports on ‘Employment Promotion,” “Local Economic Development,” “Information and Communication Technologies” and “Enterprise Education.”

Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD)

OECD is an international organization helping governments tackle the economic, social and governance challenges of a globalised economy. Click on the “Employment” tab for information on OECD’s work covering analyses of employment, unemployment and labor market polices, closely linked to social policy and education. Other areas of relevance to workforce development are the pages on “Education,” “Emerging and Transition Economies” and “Enterprise, Industry and Services” for press reports, country studies and other additional data.

Civil and Private Sector Organizations

DOT-COM Alliance

The Alliance is a partnership of various organizations and USAID which applies information and communication technologies for achieving development objectives.

There are three related USAID-funded cooperative agreements supporting the Alliance, each with specific areas of ICT experience:

  • dot-GOV-Promotes policy and regulatory reform for ICT
  • dot-ORG-Extends ICT access to under-served populations
  • dot-EDU-Strengthens education and learning systems

Visit the DOT-COM site for articles, projects descriptions and additional information on these three initiatives. The following site also has information on partners, expertise, and how missions can access ICT mechanisms for dot-EDU.

European Training Foundation (ETF)

The ETF is an EU agency dedicated to reforming vocational education, training and employment systems in transition countries. The ETF site has press releases, publications and reports from partner countries. It also has links to the National Observatories set up by the ETF to identify priorities and advise on policies for the further development of vocational training in member countries. To date, there are 25 Observatories that have been set up in co-operation with national authorities in 24 partner countries across Central and Eastern Europe, the Western Balkans, the Newly Independent States and Mongolia.

 

EQUIP 3

EQUIP3 is one of three complementary Leader with Associates Awards in the EGAT/ED portfolio of mechanisms for USAID Missions or Regional Bureaus to use to improve the quality of education and learning opportunities for out-of-school children, youth, and young adults. The project seeks to:

  • Enhance the quality of life for disadvantaged youth
  • Increase youth's contribution to development
  • Strengthen the capacity of organizations to design, implement, evaluate effective youth policies and programs
  • Advance the state-of-the-art of what works in youth programs in developing countries
  • Enhance the youth policy and program capabilities of USAID and other donor agencies

Learnlink

Learnlink is a USAID project implemented by the Academy for Educational Development (AED). It uses information, communication and educational technologies (ICTs) to support sustainable development. Their site presents information on news, project descriptions by country and sector, including workforce development.

ReliefWeb

ReliefWeb is a UN project serving the information needs of the humanitarian relief community. The “Humanitarian Library” tab has publications and reference documents for training and reintegration programs in post-conflict settings.

Women in Informal Employment Globalizing and Organizing

WIEGO is a worldwide coalition concerned with improving the status of women in the economy's informal sector. The site presents fact sheets for the informal market, publications, statistics and articles. Program areas of particular relevance include “Global Markets” and “Urban Policies.”

The Working Group for International Co-operation in Skills Development

The Working Group is comprised of international donors and organizations providing assistance for vocational and technical skills development. The Group provides a forum to promote best practices, highlight key issues and reduce the risk of duplication of effort leading towards more effective programs in the field of skills development. The site presents downloadable reports, papers and annotated links.

International Chamber of Commerce (ICC)

The ICC is a representative body for international business and trade. The site provides sectoral policy papers, investment guides for developing countries, news bulletins and links.

Small Enterprise Education and Promotion (SEEP)

World Economic Forum

The World Economic Forum addresses global issues by engaging its corporate membership in global citizenship. Their sub-pages on “The Global Competitiveness Program” includes Competitiveness Profiles of more than 70 countries, based on the Global Competitiveness Report.

The ILO’s program on Skills, Knowledge and Employability seeks to promote greater investment in skills and training so that individuals have equal and better access to productive and decent work. UNEVOC, UNESCO’s International Center for Technical and Vocational Education and Training

The UNESCO program for technical and vocational education (TVE) promotes the development and improvement of TVE systems for member states. The site contains full-text documents, publications, e-forum and links for a wide variety of TVE topics such as “Cooperation with Private Sector,” “Financing” and ‘Training Technologies.”
